His Mansion is a no-nonsense community where recovery must be more important to the residents than it is to the staff. Residents are expected to work at the program and exhibit a desire to change. Those who are not ready to surrender to the process need not apply. Those who play games after arrival will be asked to leave. We are a smoke-free, alcohol-free and drug-free environment. Appropriate medical prescriptions are allowed. Applicants may not be wards of the state or mandated to His Mansion by the courts. Because we accept no state or federal monies, charge no fees, and accept only adults, we reserve the right to choose our residents carefully. Residential Treatment ProgramOur program takes 12-13 months to complete. It includes a month-long induction and four phases of treatment: Induction – is one month commitment on the part of residents to get to know the staff, other residents and the program. At the end of the month, a decision is made between the resident and staff as to whether there is a good fit. If so, the resident moves on to the first of four phases, each lasting three months: Phase 1: Building the Basics Phase 2: Equipped for the Journey Phase 3: Inner Healing Phase 4: Discipleship
The weekly schedule at His Mansion is a balance of individual and group therapy, classroom studies, public and personal worship, and physical labor. Our recovery treatment model is not comprised of a single, canned approach but is a weaving together of several distinct strands around a central dependence on Jesus Christ. The five components are: Growing in Stature Sociogram and Process/Healing Groups Living in Community Individual Counseling Work Crew
Growing in Stature - is based on the premise that God’s strategy for developing capable adults is through the family. Once upon a time parents, grandparents, relatives, enlightened teachers and local believers were available to help youngsters learn healthy perceptions about themselves, and essential skills with which to relate to others. But in-tact nuclear families are rare and stable extended families even rarer. What a loss! Through our Growing in Stature classes combined with community living, residents can experience the benefits of a caring extended family where important interpersonal skills are not only taught but are also “caught’ in the context of real life. Sociogram and Process/Healing Groups - form the second corner of His Mansion’s pentagon of training. These components are used by several other successful programs to encourage a higher level of peer accountability and to raise up leadership from among the participants themselves. Sociograms provide each resident with a weekly public evaluation by peers, employers, instructors and mentors. This evaluation becomes the basis for evaluating a person’s progress. It identifies areas of strengths and weakness and provides guidelines for ongoing development and growth. Process/Healing Groups meet on Thursday mornings. For the women, the focus is on trauma recovery; for the men, it is on healthy sexuality and recovery from sexual addiction. The purpose of the groups is to support the transition from a dysfunctional life to one of victory and purpose. Living in Community - is critical part of the journey of hope and healing at His Mansion. Living in the dormitories, participating in group activities, worshipping together, relaxing and having fun with each other are all important avenues by which we break down barriers and build up one another. Life together is where we test out the truths, discoveries and tools we gain in the other directed activities of our program. Individual Counseling - is where our counselors “stand in the gap” for the residents. In the spirit of love they confront lies, speak truth, grant forgiveness, apply mercy and offer a safe haven in the midst of life’s storms. The amount of personal counseling is determined on a case-by-case basis with special attention paid to spiritual warfare. Work Crew - is an integral part of the recovery program, usually involving 25-30 hours a week. His Mansion is a working farm with over 20 buildings and more than 300 acres of woods, sugar maple groves and gardens. The men do most of the heavy labor dealing with agriculture, equipment repair and building maintenance. The women do much of the inside work such as food service, canning and housekeeping. They also help with the gardening, wood-fuel processing and preventative maintenance. We put into practice what we learn in the classroom and in group encounters during work crew. We are not a vocational training center but we strive to hone a work ethic that will help residents succeed at any job they take after leaving His Mansion.
