An eating disorder can ruin a life, but the treatment center at His Mansion has helped many overcome bulimia, anorexia and other eating disorders. An eating disorder is an unhealthy obsession with food that is harmful or life-threatening. Eating disorders affect as many as 10 million females and 1 million males in the U.S. Millions more are struggling with bouts of binge eating. Eating disorders include: - Anorexia, characterized by self-starvation and excessive weight loss. Anorexics usually think they're fat even though they're very thin.
- Bulimia, characterized by cycles of bingeing and vomiting or using laxatives to purge the food from the body.
- Binge Eating, characterized by frequent episodes of compulsive overeating, but unlike those with bulimia, they do not purge afterwards.
